Apple to shed dpendence on AT&T from early next year

August 11, 2010

Apple is reported to be searching manufacturers for a Verizon iPhone, and its sole dependence on AT&T’s will no longer after early 2011.

According to Cheney, an analyst and tech Bolger, “Sources with knowledge of this entire situation have assured me that Apple has submitted orders for millions of units of Qualcomm CDMA chipsets for a Verizon iPhone run due in December. This production run would likely be for a January launch, and I’d bet the phone is nearly 100 [percent] consistent with the current iPhone 4 (with a fixed insulator on the antenna).”
A the same time it looks like even AT&T is preparing to lose its exclusive lock on the iPhone with the indications coming from a new Security and Exchange Commission filing by the network service provider. The company also has said that it believes that dependence on a single handset should be shed and variety of pones should be tried out. “We expect to continue to offer such handsets (based on historical industry practice), and we believe our service plan offerings will help to retain our customers by providing incentives not to move to a new carrier,’ the network provider has said.
